Hilbert–Schmidt volume of the set of mixed quantum states

We compute the volume of the convex (N2−1)-dimensional set MN of density matrices of size N with respect to the Hilbert–Schmidt measure. The hyperarea of the boundary of this set is also found and its ratio to the volume provides information about the structure of MN . Similar investigations are also performed for the smaller set of all real density matrices. As an intermediate step, we analyse...

Hilbert–Schmidt component analysis

We propose a feature extraction algorithm, based on the Hilbert–Schmidt independence criterion (HSIC) and the maximum dependence – minimum redundancy approach. Experiments with classification data sets demonstrate that suggested Hilbert–Schmidt component analysis (HSCA) algorithm in certain cases may be more efficient than other considered approaches.

Approximation of Control Problems in Hilbert

We consider semi{discrete approximations of optimal control problems for linear distributed parameter dynamical systems, with cost functionals in Bolza or innnite horizon form. We give conditions for the convergence of approximate value functions and prove that the approximate optimal controls are a minimizing sequence for the continuous problem. We also show some concrete applications.

G-frames and Hilbert-Schmidt operators

In this paper we introduce and study Besselian $g$-frames. We show that the kernel of associated synthesis operator for a Besselian $g$-frame is finite dimensional. We also introduce $alpha$-dual of a $g$-frame and we get some results when we use the Hilbert-Schmidt norm for the members of a $g$-frame in a finite dimensional Hilbert space.

Some Polynomial Problems Arising from Padé Approximation

In the convergence theory of Padé approximation, one needs to estimate the size of a set on which a suitably normalized polynomial q is small. For example, one needs to estimate the size of the set of r 2 [0; 1] for which max jtj=1 jq (t)j =min jtj=r jq (t)j is not “too large”. We discuss some old and new problems of this type, and the methods used to solve them. 1. Introduction Let f be a func...
